Tourism
Gravedona is touristically one of the most important localities in the Northern area of Lake Como.
Thanks to its histrical importance in matters of administration and
religion, today Gravedona abounds in monuments and artistic splendours of rare beauty.
The economy of the town in the past was based on the fishing trade, agriculture and animal farming.
Today, the tourist trade offers the most employment and Gravedona is now also a renowned summer holiday
resort.
There are various areas dedicated to sport, such as the communal lido with its two swimming pools, the sports centre with tennis courts, football grounds, running piste and various cycling tracks, green zones for walks and an exercise
trail.
Furthermore the high region of Lake Como offers other
attractions: in Domaso
(2 kms), best locality in Europe for Windsurfing, one can practice other water sports at every kind of
level. There are windsurfing and sailing schools and also a water-skiing centre etc.
On the Pian
di Spagna (10 kms) there is a horse-riding centre, in Menaggio
(20 kms) there is an 18 hole Golf course.
For mountain lovers there are infinite numbers of alpine
destinations; mountain bike trails and trekking paths immersed in the calm and tranquillity of secular woods
which, together with the mountains and numerous mountain lakes offer unique
views.
For those however who are searching for a quiet, relaxing spot, the beaches, the communal lido or even romantic walks along the lakeside offer unique restful
moments.
The culinary amenities are
numerous: many hotels and restaurants offer local specialities.
For the enjoyment of teenagers and young people there are amusement arcades, discos and
pubs.
The warm summer evenings are full of leisure and cultural events for all tastes the most important being the
"Lake Feast" on the evening of 14th August when a traditional allegorial boat competition takes place and the evening ends with a firework display by the lake side.
